a beautiful icy morning in Ridgefield

We woke up yesterday to a beautifully, shiny scene outside. Apparently the warm air that had started to melt all of the snow turned cold again overnight and resulted in the prettiest glittering trees! I've definitely been down on the Connecticut winter lately, but capturing this made my day!

5 tips for capturing the everyday chaos | CT Family Photographer

I missed posting on Earth Day, but really shouldn't everyday be Earth Day? This is the only home we have - let's love it and take care of it!

We (my family) are far from perfect and probably create way too much trash but here are a few ways we are trying to help our planet by reducing our footprint: - gardening
- teaching our boys to love nature
- instilling in them a desire to help by always picking up litter
- saying no to more "one-time use" items. This is the hardest but for the last two weeks I've been bringing a thermal mug to Starbucks and it feels so good to not throw away cups. Seeing how long I can go and will report back!
- not shopping at restaurants that serve styrofoam
- reusing throw away items like jars and plastic containers when we can

And some #futuregoals include composting and bee keeping, but not quite there yet! What are your earth-friendly goals? Would love more ideas!

Sharing this image again because I woke up this morning to find it's been featured today on National Geographic Daily Dozen! Seriously pinch me moment. This image is definitely my favorite so it's so special to see others loving it, too. It does have a funny story behind though it that I thought I would share...when I took this image 14 months ago in the mountains of Ireland, I knew it was special to me but didn't think it was good enough for the world. It was in color and I couldn't quite get the overpowering green and brown of Irish winter to look right and I was so worried about that bright over-exposed spot in the middle being technically incorrect. So I shared it once and then left it behind...until one year later, this January, I was looking through old images and became determined to make something beautiful of it. Though a black & white of Ireland seemed weird (shouldn't green be part of the story?) I decided to go for it and knew I had something. It's now hangs in a beautiful frame in our hallway where I get to see it and enjoy it every single day...and the fact that I get to share something I love so much with the world is really just icing on the cake.

Swipe left for my original edit to see that 1) you don't always get things right on the first try 2) your editing style can improve and change so much in a year so dont be afraid to revisit old work...also, be patient with yourself on this journey of creativity and put yourself out there - you may be pleasantly surprised! 💙
