our trip to Ireland 2019

I have always loved to travel, so it’s kind of no wonder that I fell in love with a British man who also loves to travel and has family living all over Europe (of course that’s not the only reason, the accent was a big part of it too! ;)

Ireland is a place that we have both come to love deeply, and we’re lucky enough to have family living in one of the most beautiful parts of the country (in my humble opinion!)…So, this summer we took the boys to Ireland for two weeks, and suffice to say it was a magical time. We started out in Westport (County Mayo) where our family lives and then made our way down through Galway to County Clare where the Cliffs of Moher are.

Highlights of our trip:

  • hiking the mountain behind the family home

  • being introduced to the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen and spending two amazing afternoons there

  • irish music in every pub

  • Guiness

  • Castles, real castles!

  • rainbows everywhere

  • The lighthouse, those views were stunning!

  • Horses in the field next to our air bnb in County Clare

  • The most amazing Farmhouse stay with the gardens of my dreams

  • the dublin street tram (that’s my son’s contribution to this list, hah)

A note on the Cliffs of Moher - we were stunned by how touristy and incredibly crowded they are. There might be beautiful photos on Instagram, but I promise you those people may look alone but they were surrounded by hundreds (if not thousands) of other tourists. We won’t go back to that area, there is so much to see off the beaten path in Ireland. But if you go, I would think it would be better in the Spring and Fall. And try to go first thing in the morning…or take the ferry to see it from below, that’s what we did and I’m glad we did.

And p.s. - all of these images we’re taken on film…the old school kind you have to load into a camera!
